What’s up, guys. We’re Sigma Xi Epsilon and we’d like to
get to know you.
Our fraternity is made up of 40 men -- 19 active on the SJC campus and 2 active
elsewhere, along with 19 alumni. We are athletes, teachers, fiancés,
student leaders, football coaches, bankers, uncles, pong champions, loan
officers, surfers, musicians. We’ve got guys that party hard and guys that keep
it cool. Our founders believed in diversity, and we’re a diverse group.
A lot of our men were at the top of the totem pole in high school and they
became a part of Sigma because they wanted to continue the trend. They saw that
Sigma men have a tendency to be classy, motivated, social, at the top of their
class. And Sigma men treat women right -- it seems to work for us.
Still, some of the brothers pledged because they needed guidance, and a family
that extended beyond the capabilities of their natural families. The older guys
mentor the younger guys, the newbies teach the older guys a thing or two. It’s a
most excellent arrangement. Ask any brother and he will agree that pledging
Sigma Xi Epsilon was the best decision of his life.
We’re the largest Greek organization on campus, and our influence is
far-reaching. For a second year in a row, Sigma men occupy 3 of the 4 executive
seats in Student Government. We participate in nearly every on-campus event, and
we run many events throughout the year, both on-campus and off. It’s hard to
miss Sigma at SJC. (Look for information in "Sigma House" on the second floor of
O’Connor Hall.) And although we’ve been around a few years now and
have seen unprecedented growth in our numbers and networking capabilities, we
have the benefit of being the newer fraternity on campus. Our next few pledge
classes will be vital to the shaping of our organization. That’s why we ’ll only
accept the very best men who epitomize our virtues (charity, unity, social
responsibility, and brotherhood) and values (honesty, integrity, and
dedication). You can be the future of Sigma, while being revered by the
generations that follow.
It’s next to impossible to put into words what Sigma means to those of us who
are a part of it. It’s more than friendship and a bunch of guys that hang out
every night. Each of us would give his life for a brother. We will defend our
brothers to the end. Years from now, we’ll still have their backs. There’s a
reason Greek life has prospered for hundreds of years now. Most of our
presidents, governors, and senators have been Greek, as have been the CEOs of
most of the nation’s largest corporations. Greek life is an important part of
the college experience. It can change your life.
Rush Week will fall in February. During Rush Week, both fraternities host
events to which all male SJC students are invited. At the end of Rush Week, men
("rushes") who are interested in pledging one of the organizations place "bids"
for one of the organizations. After an interview process, the bids may be
accepted or denied. The "pledging" process then begins.
This fall, get to know the men of both fraternities. It’ll make it easier to
make a decision to place a bid in the spring. Sigma men often wear their letters
and colors (orange, blue, and white) on campus. Hang out with them in the
cafeteria at Common Hour, after class, or in the Quad. Or join our
Facebook or
MySpace groups.

In
order to be eligible to rush for Sigma Xi Epsilon, a male student must have been
enrolled at St. Joseph’s College for at least one semester prior to the semester
they wish to rush. Transfer students may rush immediately upon entering the
College.
The premise of pledging is to develop strong bonds of trust, commitment, and
brotherhood amongst the brothers and the pledges.
